EVA

EVA

EVA is a flexible, rubber-like thermoplastic copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. It offers excellent toughness, low-temperature flexibility, good transparency (in certain grades), and strong adhesion properties. As the vinyl acetate (VA) content increases, EVA becomes softer, more flexible, and more elastic, with improved clarity and lower melting point. EVA is widely used in foam, film, adhesive, and extrusion coating applications where flexibility, impact resistance, and transparency are valued.

EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate) – Product Specifications

EVA is a flexible, rubber-like thermoplastic copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. It offers excellent toughness, low-temperature flexibility, good transparency (in certain grades), and strong adhesion properties. As the vinyl acetate (VA) content increases, EVA becomes softer, more flexible, and more elastic, with improved clarity and lower melting point. EVA is widely used in foam, film, adhesive, and extrusion coating applications where flexibility, impact resistance, and transparency are valued.

Key Parameters:

  • Vinyl Acetate (VA) Content: 5 – 40% (grade dependent; higher VA increases softness and flexibility)

  • Density: 0.93 – 0.96 g/cm³ (decreases with higher VA content)

  • Melt Flow Index (MFI / MI): 0.5 – 50 g/10min (highly grade dependent)

  • Tensile Strength: 6 – 20 MPa (decreases as VA content increases)

  • Elongation at Break: 300 – 1000% (high elongation, especially with higher VA)

  • Flexural Modulus: 15 – 200 MPa (soft and flexible, VA dependent)

  • Shore Hardness (A scale): 40 – 95 (lower VA: 90–95A; higher VA: 40–90A – rubbery)

  • Vicat Softening Point: 40 – 80°C (decreases with higher VA)

  • Melting Point: 65 – 100°C (lower melting point at high VA)

  • Brittleness Temperature: < -70°C (excellent low-temperature properties)

  • Water Absorption (24h): < 0.05% (low)

  • Optical Properties: Good clarity for high-VA grades (for hot melt adhesives and packaging film)

  • Processing Methods: Injection molding (foam soles), foam extrusion (shoe midsoles, sports equipment), blown/cast film extrusion (agricultural film, stretch wrap, ice bags), extrusion coating, hot melt adhesive production, wire & cable coating, rotomolding

  • Typical Applications: Footwear: Foam midsoles and outsoles (sports shoes, sandals, slippers), flip-flops. Sports & Leisure: Yoga mats, exercise mats, playground tiles, pool floats, life jackets, water toys. Packaging Film: Stretch wrap (food wrap pallet film), heavy-duty shipping bags, ice bags, frozen food packaging, agricultural film (greenhouse – EVA film is more transparent and improves light diffusion compared to PE). Adhesives: Hot melt adhesives (bookbinding, packaging, woodworking, product assembly), pressure-sensitive adhesives (tape). Extrusion Coating: Paper and cardboard coating (liquid packaging, milk cartons – replacing wax). Wire & Cable: Semiconductive or insulating layers. Medical: Medical tubing, blood bags (specialized plasticized grades). Solar: Encapsulation film for photovoltaic solar panels (special high-clarity, high-VA grade). Other: Toys (soft, flexible parts), automotive interior skins (dashboards, door panels), ski boots (blended with other materials), rubber modifier for polyolefins.
